Hulu to overtake YouTube


Not in viewership, mind you, but in revenue. While YouTube sports an 80 Million+ monthly audience, it is estimated to pull in $100m for their year compared to Hulu's $70m. But Hulu has only been around for 9 months (public launch was pushed live in March 2008). Industry analysts put both companies' revenues in a dead heat by next year. Pretty impressive considering Hulu is just a baby compared to the YouTube behemoth.

A big part of Hulu's success is that it offers full episodes of TV shows and movies under full license from its media partners (NBC, Fox, Universal Studios, etc) while the user only has to sit through an occasional pre-roll or post-roll advertisement. Hmmmm... sounds a lot like TV. Who knew such a crazy idea would work.
