While only a handful of people in St. Louis and around the world could tell you who Oliver Sain was, his talent and influence was undeniable. With perhaps the exception of Ike Turner, who was also a friend of Sain's, Oliver tranformed the R&B music scene in St. Louis in the '60s with his musical genius.
AVI Entertainment and Excello Records reached out to Vintage Vinyl in St. Louis for suggestions on re-releasing material from their catalog and the quick and definitive answer was Oliver Sain - St. Louis Breakdown, the Best of Oliver Sain. This compilation had been produced in 1996 but was long out of print, so Boxing Clever created the design for both the vinyl LP and compact disc titles. Tom 'Papa' Ray of Vintage Vinyl wrote the liner notes and made some adjustments to the track arrangement with the addition of two new songs: African Walk and Tanya.
